Camilla Balshaw - Writing

Writing

I write fiction and non-fiction.

My writing has been published in The Guardian, Observer Magazine and Gal-dem. I've had short fiction published in several magazines, 'The Colour of Milk' was published in BrainChild, an anthology of experimental fiction.

You can listen to my interview with the writer and academic, Midge Gillies. We talk about my writing practice and some of my current projects.

In 2020 I was longlisted for the Fish Prize and shortlisted for Penguin WriteNow. Penguin Random House received a recorded number of applications, 3,700, and I was thrilled to make the final 50 applicants.

I am excited by writers and practitioners who explore the human condition. I have a long list of favourites. Here are a few:

Roy Williams, Kiley Reid, Jami Attenberg, Bernardine Evaristo, Diana Evans, Irenosen Okojie, Buchi Emecheta, Michaela Coel, Andrea Levy, Louise Hare, Ottessa Moshfegh, Caryl Phillips, Jean Rhys, Lynette Yiadom-Boakye, Yasujiro Ozu, Sayaka Murata and Nicole Dennis-Benn.
